If this mailbox could only talk…(and a cute, yet useful decorating idea!)

Well, it's 8:30 a.m. and I'm already feeling pretty productive today.  Before the kids left for school I had put a load of laundry in, vacuumed all the carpets, made my husband's lunch, cleaned up the kitchen, dusted the family room, got everyone ready for school, and exercised!  AND, I just put a pork roast in the crock pot for dinner.  I didn't know what to do with it besides our standard shredded BBQ pork sandwiches, so I decided to get creative.  I was feeling like trying my own version of Jamaican pork, so I poured in lime juice, orange juice, some chili powder, cumin, taco seasoning, and a little garlic powder.  I hope it turns out!

I snapped a photo of this old mailbox last summer.  It was on the cutest little house in a historic area of our town.  (photos of the cute house yet to come).  I knew then and there that I wanted a cute little mailbox for my house!  Only I decided to put it in the kitchen near the door to the garage to put our mail in.  (We have a little kitchen, and therefore not much counter space or space for a desk to put incoming mail on.)

So, I called a local antique store and asked them to be on the look out for old mailboxes.  About a week later the shop owner called to tell me that she had one for me!  She only charged $10 for it.  It was plain metal, so I pulled out my craft paints and gave it a few coats of cream paint and then roughed it up a bit.  Then we (here is where my husband comes in to the picture) mounted it on the kitchen cabinet for a permanent place to catch the incoming mail and bills.  Now we don't have to clutter up the kitchen counter anymore, and it is a fun conversation piece!

Did any of you find the plates at your local Dollar Tree?  I hope so!!!

  4. Wow girl talk about motivated! Your tiring me out just thinking about all the stuff you've done at such an early hour. You must have been flying through the house LOL!

You may not know this but I have a soft spot for vintage mailboxes myself. And a collection of two to prove it. I love that you are using yours in such a useful way. It looks adorable hanging in your kitchen. Smart, very smart.
