spring wreath from Christmas wreath

IMG_5569

During the home tour, I displayed one of my Christmas wreaths on the chalkboard in the sun room.  I liked the idea so much that after the holiday, I decided I wanted to keep a wreath there year round.  Since the Christmas wreath was only for the holiday,  I needed a new one to last through spring and summer.

I found an old wreath in my basement that I had almost thrown away several times.  I never threw it away though, because I kept thinking I could recycle, ahem, "upcycle" it somehow.

I quickly pulled all the berries and pine cones off, forgetting that you would probably want to see the "before" picture first!  So, here is the wreath, with all the trimmings thrown back on just to give you an idea of what it looked like.  I saved some of the pine boughs as I thought they looked realistic (I'll show you what I did with them later)

With wire cutters, I snipped most of the greenery off until I was left with the round metal wreath form.

I picked up two bunches of greenery at Hobby Lobby 50% off.  They were $13.99 to start, so I got them for about $7.00 a piece.  I clipped off each branch of the bunch at the base.

Then I started hot gluing each piece around the frame.  I made them all go in the same direction, and overlap every couple of inches.  I did three rows.

I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out!  I love the little pinkish lavender berries on the ends.  I think it makes it more realistic looking.

Perfect for spring, right?

I didn't know what to do with the faux pine clippings that I saved, so for the time being I stuck them here...

So, I got a brand new spring wreath for $14.00!  Not bad!  What do you have around your house that you could change up a bit?
