one cool cake
I was on facebook the other day and saw a post from my very creative cousin Karen. She had made a hamburger birthday cake for her son Josh, and I asked her if I could share it with you! Isn't it so fun?!
To make it, Karen said that she doubled her cake recipe. She then baked it in three pans, two that were 8 inch rounds and one in an 8 inch bundt pan. She filled one of the rounds about 2/3 full and the other only about 1/3 full. The smaller half was the bottom bun and the bigger one was the top.
Then she trimmed the edges of the top a little bit to give it the curve of the burger. She filled the bundt pan with the rest of the batter (so the "meat" would be the thickest part.) When frosting, she just filled the hole in the bundt with the extra frosting.
The lettuce, cheese and tomato were made from marzipan, colored to the appropriate color. Only the edges had the marzipan sticking out since she didn't have enough to go all the way through the middle. And the sesame seeds?
They're toasted Rice Krispies!

She has had her cake, declared it was delicious...
And is enjoying every bite!
This little faux petite cake that sits in my kitchen makes me happy! Some times we need to slow down, and take a little time out for ourselves. A little time to eat cake, and enjoy it!

I hope all of you had an enjoyable holiday with family and friends!
~Here I am with my kids~
One of the things that Santa Claus brought was a gift certificate to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, NJ. My kids like watching Buddy on Cake Boss, and have wanted to check out his bakery. We live about an hour from

chocolate covered strawberries
Strawberries are in season now, and they are sooo delicious. Don't you think? We have had some really tasty ones lately. I keep going back to the grocery store for more! One of our favorite things to do with strawberries is to dip them in chocolate. We make the chocolate the same way that we do here for my chocolate covered pretzels recipe.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
All you need is 1 cup of chocolate chips
strawberries
wax paper
Simply melt 3/4 c. chocolate chips in microwave on medium power until melted.
(or you can melt all the chocolate chips in a double boiler)
Then add the remaining 1/4 c. of chocolate chips and stir well.
After the strawberries have been washed and dried, dip them in the chocolate and place them on wax paper. Chill in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
Enjoy!

butterfinger cookies
My father in law was here this weekend, and mentioned that he had recently made cookies with butterfinger candy in them. So, while we were grocery shopping we picked some butterfingers up and I asked him to make them for us! I've never been a huge fan of butterfingers, but these cookies were so delicious. We found this five star recipe from taste of home here. (Great way to use leftover Halloween candy!)
Here is the recipe in all of its yummy goodness!
