DIY wood pediment

Last summer I happened upon a yard sale that had a huge box of stained wood for free.  The owner told me that they had just remodeled their kitchen, and he was getting rid of the remnants.  I wasn't sure what I would do with them, but thought maybe I would make some signs or something.

Then, while cleaning out my craft room, I found an unfinished wood decal that I had had for years and could never seem to get rid of it.  I kept thinking I would do something with it, but I didn't know what or when.  That got me thinking..."I could make an architectural piece....a decorative pediment."

Finally...My New Wood Floors!

I promised you a tour of my home once my floors were finished.  (For the before pictures, click here.) We haven't installed the baseboards yet...as soon as we do, I'm pretty sure they will make an even bigger difference!)  Here we go!

plywood subfloors

Well, I took up the carpet in my sun room.  My husband wanted to wait until we got started on the tile, but I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.   It wasn't too bad, just a bit tedious pulling out all of the staples and nails.  I cut the carpet up into squares and put it out with the trash.  Some of it I took out to the township dump during our city's clean up day.

Once I started taking the carpet up, I realized I kind of like the sub floor better than the carpet!  Sarah Susanka actually showed a home with a "finished" plywood sub floor and they were beautiful!  I guess if it is in good condition, you can do lots of things with it.  KariAnne, did a beautiful job painting her plywood sub floors over at Thistlewood Farms.  Check it out.  And, my white painted sub floor at the top of my stairs has held up great!  That being said, my hardwood is in, and I am excited to have the real thing.  We just need to schedule a time to pick it up!

"Staging" Cozy Bed Nooks with Plywood!

Thank you Theresa!
You are my 400th follower!  I've been waiting a long time to reach that milestone!
And special thanks to all of my wonderful followers out there, for giving me the motivation to create posts to share my ideas and tips.  Yes, that means you!

I have some amazing photos to share with you.  This first photo uses a plywood cornice mounted wall to wall along with curtains to make a cozy little nook.  If this concept would have worked in my daughter's room, I would have done it in a heart beat!  It didn't work because adjacent to the wall where I want her bed to be, stands a mirrored, sliding door closet, which takes up most of the wall.

Don't you love the old beam?  I've thought about installing them in my house to add some character.  (smaller, less heavy, pine ones...then staining them to look old with apple cider vinegar like I did my signs in this post!)
