faux greenery

Hopefully we all said goodbye LONG ago to fake IVY, especially draped along the tops of our kitchen cabinets!  I know I did.  But greenery also adds a lot to decor.  It brings an element of naturalism into our homes.  The problem is, I don't like to take care of real plants!  So I've come up with an alternative.  I purchase the most realistic looking greenery at hobby lobby, stick them in pots, and "plant" them around my house.  Most people think they are real!  I never buy it full price.  It always seems to be...

This is what it looks like at hobby lobby

The tag says 479709.
It is also in a different section in a bunch that looks like this with the numbers 402180

You can either bend the whole stem and stick it in a pot, or with wire cutters, cut each stem apart from the bunch and make an arrangement in a pot. (you may need to stick some spanish moss or something in the pot first if you do it this way so that each stem will stay in place)  It doesn't have to be perfect!  Try to keep the taller stems in the middle though and keep them mostly the same length.)

  2. As soon as I build my cabinets with these old window frames, I'm buying greenery. I need something green and you always seemed to find the most real stuff. Thanks for the tip. I still remember your fake birthday cake that I about ate. See? You're good!

  4. Even though the trend for plants has been "no faux" for a number of years now, I still use them throughout my home. I've always sought out only those that can fool even the best of green-thumb gardeners. I probably always will. Yours look great, Robyn!

  6. I found you through "Positively Splendid"...I love your wreath! I agree with you about finding good looking fake greenery at HL. I have some of the same items you have in your blog "growing" in the urns by my front door to fill in where live plants have given up in the heat this summer.
