my murals

Last year, (or was it two years ago?  I honestly can't remember now!  I'm terrible with dates and anything that has to do with time and numbers.  In fact, my kids need to tell me how old I am~seriously.  I just don't really care!  I did not inherit Grandma Betty's genes.  She can tell you the date, day of the week, and time that anything occurred.  And she is 86 years old today!!!  Happy Birthday Grandma!  Not long ago I called her and asked, "Grandma?  I want to tell my kids about Mt. St. Helens.  I remember when we saw the ash from the volcano's eruption.  When was it?"  She said, "Well, lets see it was May 18th, 1980.")
Anyway, last year (I think)  I was asked to paint a backdrop for our church's annual breakfast with Santa.  I went to Walmart and bought a full size white sheet, sketched out the design, and painted it with acrylic paints.  Here are two of my kids posing in front of it before we loaded it up to bring to church.

And here it is with Santa.  We actually have one of the real Santas at our church.  He has a real white beard all year long!  Unfortunately, this year our Santa was doing his job at the mall and had to be taken to the hospital.  Needless to say, we had to have one of Santa's helpers fill in for our annual breakfast last Saturday. It was fun to see my mural again!

Walmart contacted me around the same time that I painted it, and asked if I could paint an original backdrop for their Santa Claus.  As a fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network, they take photos of the children with Santa right there at their store.  I felt honored to be a part of this fundraiser.  Once again, I used a sheet from their store, and painted the background with my acrylic paints.  Unfortunately this photo is dark since it was taken in my basement.  (I mounted the sheet to the concrete wall)

Tomorrow will be another giveaway!  Each day this week will be filled with lots of Christmas goodies & fun as we count down to Christmas!  Thanks again for visiting!
Love,
Robyn

Don't leave me hanging, what happened to Santa?

  4. That's awesome. I wish I could paint. But I do have a mother who paints fabulously. Painting a mural on a sheet like that is something I never thought of. Now I am thinking of many ways that could be useful.

  5. Hi Jane, I just found out a little bit about what happened to Santa. He is on oxygen, but did not take it with him to the mall. I'm not sure exactly what happened while he was at the mall, but it was due to his lack of oxygen. He is in the hospital as we speak with pneumonia.

  6. What a wonderful idea, especially for houses with little kids. Which also has me curious as to what your "real" stockings look like. Are they handmade? You make so many wonderful decorations for your house. I'd love to see what you use for your stockings.

It's Christmas Stocking Week at Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy and I'm having a Christmas stocking linky party this weekned. I'd love for you to join us.

  8. Oh my gosh! You're so talented! I do a little bit of painting and I've bought book after book of "How to Paint Murals" and I've yet to try it on a wall. I really envy you. I wish I had a friend that could do it like you so I could learn.
