O Christmas Tree

We put up two Christmas trees each year.  One with all the pretty, breakable ornaments, and one with all the memorable ornaments that we have grown up with ("the kid's tree").  I can't believe I actually let my husband and kids decorate the pretty tree this year.  (By the way, do you like this vintage tree topper that I found at the thrift store a couple of years ago?)

I am usually the one to haul up the tree from the basement, string the lights and decorate it.  I always have to make sure the ornaments and black grograin bows are positioned just right.  But this year, I didn't care, and relinquished the duty to them.  They did a fantastic job, had a great time in the process, and I didn't even intervene!  It was very liberating.

About four years ago, I stopped sending out Christmas cards as well.  It was one of the best decisions I have ever made!   Without the added stress of creating and sending out cards, I can truly enjoy the season and feel the peace that I want to feel.  While I love my family and friends, there are so many other ways I stay connected.  I am grateful for the technology of skype, facebook, email etc. to stay in touch over the holidays.

Didn't they do a good job?

My favorite ornaments are the big gold sparkly balls,

and the oversized red ones...

What are your favorite ornaments that you decorate with each year?
