blue chair makeover

We've had this little blue chair for 17 years!  I decided it needed to be dressed up in something fun and shown off.  So,  I bought a remnant of green fabric that I  really liked for $3 per yard at walmart.  I didn't have enough to cover the entire chair, so I raided my fabrics in my basement and found the blue paisely sheet from the sheet set that I have used for other projects.  On a trip to Raffia, I found a great floral sham from pine cone hill for the back cushion ($40)...

I draped the fabrics over the chair and decided I liked the combination.  Then I contacted my local seamstress and she sewed the fabrics into a semi fitted slipcover.  Can you believe she only charged about $70?  -piping and all?  So my little blue chair got a total makeover for around $100!

It now resides in a prominent place in the family room.  So go ahead, mix up some fabrics!

  2. I know this chair--I even knew it when it was brand new! Love the new cover. It looks great with the round coffee table. I can't decide on distressing that. Maybe a little, just so you won't get mad when the kids chip the paint! If you don't like it, you can always paint over the distressing.

  3. Your makeover is marvelous, Robyn! The fabrics play very nicely together and create such a homey appeal that the chair lacked before.
