cast iron door stop makeover

IMG_5021

This post is a reminder of the miracle of paint.  Oh what would I do without paint in my life?  I paint nearly everything!  A little paint can provide such remarkable transformations.  Remember my flea market finds from this post?  One thing that I planned to makeover was the antique cast iron dog door stop.  I didn't like how he was painted with the brown ears, and black spots.

So, I bought a can of black matte spray paint from Walmart and gave him a couple of new coats...

Now he sits and guards Grace's room.  (Actually, he helps keep her door open.  She has so many purses and bags hanging on the peg rack behind her door, that her door used to always be half open...which is one of my pet peeves!  I like my doors either fully open, or fully closed!)

So, remember this tip...the next time you find something you like at a thrift store or a yard sale, but aren't wild about the color (s)... don't forget that you can likely give it a quick coat of paint!
