Opening Our 10 year Family Time Capsule
Happy New Year! Ten years ago, we decided to make a simple family time capsule. The goal was to make one every year on New Years day, but that didn't happen. So, for the past few years, we have been looking forward to opening our 2002 time capsule. It has made the journey through three different states while our family moved around the country. Here we are, ten years later, and my babies have grown up. When we made it, we just used a recycled gift box from one of our Christmas presents that year. We asked everyone to find something to contribute to the box. After all these years, no one could remember for what they had put in it, so at midnight last night, opening the box was the highlight of our new year celebration....
We found a yellow matchbox car that our three year old put in, a "monster" picture and letter from our 6 year old, and baby socks from our 3 month old.
A photograph of the kids at that age...
A letter plus a BYU vs. Colorado State football ticket stub from my husband, and a note from me...
For me, the best part was the yarn. When I saw it, I couldn't figure out why that would have been in my letter. After reading my note, I remembered how my boys loved to have pieces of yarn tied to the tags in their pajamas pants so that they could have dinosaur "tails". :) After reminiscing, my almost 13 year old tied it to the tag of his basketball shorts for old time sake! It was a new year's to remember.

I love it! I think that the best part of it is the little thing that you discover, like the yarn "dinosaur tails". It must have been so fun for your entire family to open the box.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!
How neat! I'm telling my daughter about this, in ten years her two will be 21 and 17! Should be neat when they open it up!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. We loved you sharing the contents with us too. It's very obvious you are having a Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and this is the first thing I read! How fantastic to have all those memories flood back to all of you! And to have the boys join in is even more special. We forget the little things sometimes. Bringing back that moment in time reminds us just how special our lives are and how blessed we have been along the way! Thanks for reminding us TO remember the little things!
